Ingredients
Scale
Sweet Tea
- 4-6 black tea bags (depending on desired strength)
- 5 cups water
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
Strawberry Syrup
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
Additional Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, for extra citrus flavor)
- Lemon slices (for garnish)
- Fresh mint leaves (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Sweet Tea: In a saucepan, bring 5 cups of water to a boil. Add the black tea bags and steep for 5-7 minutes to extract a rich flavor. Remove the tea bags and stir in 3/4 cup of granulated sugar until fully dissolved. Allow the tea to cool down to room temperature, then refrigerate to chill.
- Make the Strawberry Syrup: In a separate saucepan, combine the halved strawberries, 1/4 cup water, and 1/4 cup sugar. Cook over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, mashing the strawberries occasionally to release their juice. Continue simmering for an additional 3-5 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly. For a smoother syrup, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds and pulp. Let the syrup cool completely.
- Combine Tea and Syrup: In a large pitcher, mix the chilled sweet tea with the cooled strawberry syrup. Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice if desired to add a citrusy brightness. Taste and adjust the sweetness as needed by adding more sugar or syrup.
- Serve and Garnish: Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the strawberry sweet tea over the ice. Garnish each serving with lemon slices and fresh mint leaves for an aromatic and visually appealing presentation.
Notes
- You can adjust the number of tea bags to control the tea’s strength.
- Modify the amount of sugar in both the tea and syrup to suit your preferred sweetness level.
- Straining the strawberry syrup is optional but creates a smoother drink.
- Add lemon juice for a touch of acidity that balances the sweetness.
- Serve immediately over ice for the best refreshing experience.
- Store leftover tea and syrup separately in the refrigerator and combine before serving.
