Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 6 slices fresh white sandwich bread, crusts removed
- 1/2 punnet strawberries, diced small
- 4 1/2 tbsp Nutella
Coating and Cooking
- 1/4 cup caster sugar (superfine sugar)
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp milk (full cream or low fat)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prepare Egg Mixture: In a bowl with a flat base big enough to lie the roll ups, whisk together the egg, milk, and a pinch of salt until fully combined.
- Spread Sugar: Pour the caster sugar into a small shallow dish for coating the roll ups later.
- Flatten Bread: Use a rolling pin to roll each slice of bread flat, making it easier to roll up and to help the bread stay sealed.
- Apply Nutella: Spread approximately 3/4 tablespoon of Nutella evenly over each flattened bread slice.
- Add Strawberries: Sprinkle the small diced strawberries across the bottom edge of each Nutella-covered bread slice.
- Roll Up Bread: Carefully roll each bread slice from the strawberry edge, sealing the roll with the Nutella to keep it closed.
- Melt Butter: Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a pan over medium-high heat until melted and sizzling.
- Dip Roll Ups: Dip each roll up into the egg mixture, making sure to coat all sides, then shake off any excess liquid before placing into the heated pan.
- Cook Roll Ups: Fry the roll ups in the pan for about 4 minutes total, turning every minute to ensure all sides become golden brown and cooked evenly.
- Coat with Sugar: Remove the cooked roll ups from the pan and immediately roll them in the caster sugar to coat completely, then transfer to a serving plate. Repeat with remaining roll ups.
- Serve: Enjoy the Strawberry Nutella French Toast Roll Ups immediately while warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- Using fresh white sandwich bread is key for easy rolling and a soft texture.
- Rolling the bread thinly prevents the roll ups from becoming too bulky and helps them cook evenly.
- You can substitute strawberries with other fresh berries or fruit of choice.
- Make sure to cook on medium-high heat to get a nicely browned crust without burning.
- Serve immediately, as the sugar coating may melt if left too long.
