Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Filling
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup fresh strawberries, chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Topping
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for topping)
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy, ensuring all ingredients are well incorporated for a sweet and tangy filling.
- Prep the Strawberries: Chop the fresh strawberries into small pieces and toss them with lemon juice. This will enhance their flavor and add a subtle zesty note to balance the cream cheese sweetness.
- Assemble the Danishes: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 4 equal squares. Spoon an even amount of the cream cheese mixture onto the center of each square, then top with the lemon-coated fresh strawberries. Carefully fold the corners of each square towards the center over the filling, slightly overlapping to create a danish shape.
- Finish and Bake: Brush the tops of the pastries with the beaten egg wash to achieve a golden, glossy finish. Sprinkle evenly with granulated sugar for a sweet crunch. Bake the danishes in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 18-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easier mixing and a smoother filling.
- Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and texture.
- The lemon juice helps to prevent the strawberries from browning and adds a bright contrast to the creamy filling.
- You can substitute powdered sugar with confectioners’ sugar if preferred.
- Serve warm or at room temperature for optimal taste and texture.
