Description

Golden and flaky, these Sausage Rolls made with puff pastry are a classic British appetizer that’s perfect for parties or a delicious snack. The savory filling of ground pork sausage, onions, and herbs is encased in a buttery pastry shell, creating a satisfying treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Puff Pastry:

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed

Sausage Filling:

  • 1 pound ground pork sausage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Egg Wash:

  • 1 egg, beaten

Other:

  • Flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Sausage Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine ground sausage, chopped onion, minced garlic, thyme, mustard, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Roll Out the Pastry: On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry into a 10×12 inch rectangle. Cut in half lengthwise to make two strips.
  4. Assemble the Rolls: Shape the sausage mixture into two long logs. Place each log on a pastry strip. Brush edges with egg wash, fold pastry over filling, and seal. Cut into pieces.
  5. Bake: Place the rolls on the baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  6. Serve: Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier twist, use spicy Italian sausage.
  • Enhance the flavor with chopped fresh herbs like parsley or sage.
  • Serve warm with ketchup, mustard, or your preferred dipping sauce.
