Ingredients
Scale
Lasagna Noodles
- 12 San Giorgio lasagna noodles
Meat Sauce
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 26 oz pasta sauce (preferably marinara)
Cheese Mixture
- 32 oz ricotta cheese
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 tbsp chopped parsley
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
Toppings
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking your lasagna.
- Cook noodles: Boil the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water to prevent sticking, then set aside.
- Prepare meat sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with chopped onion and minced garlic until browned, approximately 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed. Stir in the pasta sauce and heat through until well combined.
- Mix cheese filling: In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, beaten eggs, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Stir until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Assemble first layer: Spread one-third of the meat sauce evenly on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Add noodles and cheese: Arrange about 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, and sprinkle with 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Add second layer: Repeat by adding another third of the meat sauce, another layer of noodles, the remaining ricotta mixture, and another cup of mozzarella cheese.
- Add final layer: Place the remaining noodles on top, cover with the remaining meat sauce, and sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
- Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the lasagna is hot and bubbly.
- Rest and serve: Allow the lasagna to sit for about 15 minutes before slicing to set its layers. Serve warm and enjoy your comforting meal.
Notes
- Make sure to cook lasagna noodles al dente to avoid mushy layers.
- Draining excess fat from the cooked beef prevents the lasagna from becoming greasy.
- Allowing the lasagna to rest after baking helps it hold together when sliced.
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or Italian sausage for variation.
- For a vegetarian option, omit meat and use a vegetable marinara sauce.
