Description

Marinated Soy Eggs are a flavorful and versatile snack or addition to meals, featuring boiled eggs soaked in a savory soy sauce-based marinade with garlic, green onions, and a hint of sweetness and spice. These eggs are perfect for ramen bowls, rice dishes, or as a tasty protein-rich snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Eggs

  • 6 boiled eggs

Marinade

  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • â…“ cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1-2 teaspoons red chili pepper flakes (optional for heat)

Instructions

  1. Boil Eggs: Boil enough water in a large pot until it reaches a rolling boil. Carefully place eggs in the boiling water using a slotted spoon and cook to your desired consistency: soft boiled (6-7 minutes), medium boiled (8-9 minutes), or hard boiled (10-12 minutes).
  2. Ice Bath: Transfer the eggs immediately into an ice bath or bowl of cold water to stop cooking and cool them down.
  3. Peel Eggs: Once cooled, peel the eggs carefully.
  4. Prepare Marinade: In a medium container, combine soy sauce, water, honey or maple syrup, rice vinegar, minced garlic, sliced green onions, sesame seeds, sesame oil, and chili pepper flakes if using.
  5. Marinate Eggs: Place the peeled eggs into the soy sauce marinade, ensuring they are fully submerged for even flavor absorption.
  6. Refrigerate: Refrigerate the marinated eggs for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight, to maximize flavor infusion.
  7. Serve: Enjoy the marinated soy eggs as a ramen egg in noodle bowls, over rice, or as a quick, flavorful snack.

Notes

  • You can adjust the sweetness by using more or less honey or maple syrup.
  • For spicier eggs, increase the amount of red chili flakes or add fresh chili slices.
  • The eggs can be stored in the marinade for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
  • If you prefer a softer or firmer egg yolk, adjust the boiling time accordingly.
  • Use a container that seals well to prevent the marinade from absorbing other refrigerator odors.
