Ingredients
Scale
Pasta
- 12 oz (340 g) spaghetti
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Meat Sauce
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 jar (24 oz / 680 g) marinara sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Cheese and Eggs
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Optional Garnish
- Fresh basil or parsley
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch pie dish or a 9×9-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Cook Spaghetti: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and set aside to cool slightly.
- Make Meat Sauce: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Add diced onion and minced garlic; sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened and fragrant. Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat and let simmer gently for 5–10 minutes to meld flavors.
- Prepare Spaghetti Crust: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and grated Parmesan cheese. Add the cooked spaghetti and toss well to coat evenly with the egg mixture; this will help bind the spaghetti together as a crust.
- Assemble Pie: Press the spaghetti mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared baking dish to form a crust. Evenly spread the meat sauce over the spaghetti crust, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top.
- Bake: Place the assembled dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown on top.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and allow the pie to cool for 5–10 minutes to set. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Be sure to cook the spaghetti just until al dente to prevent it from becoming too soft during baking.
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or Italian sausage for different flavors.
- Adding fresh herbs like basil or parsley at the end enhances the flavor and presentation.
- Allowing the pie to cool slightly before cutting helps it hold its shape better.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and gently reheated in the oven or microwave.
