Description

This Healthy Game Day Dip recipe is a flavorful, layered dip combining warm refried beans seasoned with spices, creamy melted cheese, fresh mashed avocado, a tangy lime-scalloped yogurt topping, and garnished with vibrant cherry tomatoes and cilantro. It’s perfect for sharing with a crowd during game day or any casual gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Bean Layer

  • 1 can of refried beans
  • 1 (4-ounce) can diced green chiles
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Cheese Layer

  • 1/2 cup grated Monterey Jack or Colby Jack cheese

Avocado Layer

  • 2 avocados
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (from the divided teaspoon)

Yogurt Layer

  • 1 1/2 cups yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon Tajin seasoning

Topping

  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. Heat the bean mixture: Place the refried beans, diced green chiles, garlic powder, cumin, 1/2 teaspoon sea salt, and black pepper in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir to combine and heat for about 3 minutes or until warmed through.
  2. Layer the beans: Spoon the warmed refried bean mixture into a large low bowl or a 9×11-inch glass pan, spreading evenly to form the base layer.
  3. Add the cheese: Sprinkle the grated Monterey Jack or Colby Jack cheese evenly on top of the warm refried beans to allow it to slightly melt.
  4. Prepare the avocado layer: In a separate bowl, mash the avocados and add the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt along with the juice of one lime. Stir until well combined and smooth.
  5. Spread the avocado: Spoon the mashed avocado over the cheese layer, spreading it out into a uniform single layer.
  6. Create the yogurt topping: In another bowl, mix the yogurt with the Tajin seasoning until thoroughly combined. Spoon this mixture over the avocado layer and spread it evenly.
  7. Garnish: Finish by topping the dip with the diced cherry tomatoes and chopped cilantro for fresh flavor and vibrant color.

Notes

  • Use the cheese of your choice, Monterey Jack or Colby Jack offers a mild, creamy flavor that melts nicely.
  • Tajin seasoning adds a tangy and slightly spicy flavor to the yogurt topping; adjust quantity based on preferred spice level.
  • This dip can be served with vegetable sticks, tortilla chips, or pita bread.
  • For a spicier version, add chopped jalapeños to the bean mixture.
  • To keep it fresh, prepare up to the avocado layer in advance and add avocado and yogurt layers just before serving to prevent browning.
