Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 9 cups rice Chex cereal (one standard size box)
- 7 tablespoons Halloween sprinkles (or to taste)
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Measure the Cereal: Measure out 9 cups of rice Chex cereal, equivalent to one standard size box, and set it aside in a large mixing bowl.
- Melt the Chocolate Mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the milk chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well between each, until fully melted and smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract until evenly incorporated.
- Coat the Cereal: Pour the melted chocolate-peanut butter mixture over the cereal. Gently toss the cereal with a spatula or spoon until every piece is evenly coated. Next, add the Halloween sprinkles and stir gently to distribute them throughout the mixture.
- Powdered Sugar Coating: Divide the coated cereal into two equal portions. Place one half into a large ZipLoc bag along with half of the powdered sugar. Seal the bag and gently shake or toss to coat the cereal completely with powdered sugar. Spread the coated puppy chow out on a lined baking sheet. Repeat the process with the remaining half.
- Set and Store: Allow the puppy chow to set on the baking sheet at room temperature or refrigerate for 10-15 minutes to firm up. Store the snack in a sealed container or ZipLoc bag in a cool place for up to one week. Note that sprinkles may shed off during storage—simply collect and sprinkle them back on when serving.
Notes
- Use milk, dark, or white chocolate chips based on your preference.
- You can substitute peanut butter with almond or sunflower butter for allergies.
- Adjust the amount of Halloween sprinkles according to your liking.
- For an extra crunchy texture, dry the coated puppy chow on a baking sheet before storing.
- Puppy chow is best consumed within a week for optimal freshness.
