Description

This easy guacamole recipe is a fresh and flavorful Mexican classic perfect for entertaining or as a healthy snack. Made with ripe avocados, tangy lime juice, fresh cilantro, and a touch of spice from jalapeño, it can be prepared quickly using a simple bowl or traditional molcajete method for added authenticity.

Ingredients

Scale

Guacamole Ingredients

  • 2 avocados (cut into halves, pitted & peeled or flesh scooped out)
  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • 1-2 tablespoons cilantro (finely chopped)
  • Salt & pepper (to taste)
  • 1-2 tablespoons onion (chopped)
  • 1 small jalapeño or serrano pepper (chopped, seeds removed)
  • 1 small tomato (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Prep Ingredients: Gather and prepare all ingredients by halving, pitting, and peeling the avocados or scooping out the flesh. Chop the cilantro, onion, jalapeño (with seeds removed), and tomato finely for mixing.
  2. Bowl Method: In a mixing bowl, add the avocado flesh, lime juice, chopped cilantro, and salt and pepper. Mash the mixture using a fork to your desired texture—either smooth or chunky. Gently fold in the chopped onion, jalapeño, and tomato. Taste the guacamole and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve immediately for best freshness.
  3. Molcajete Method: If using a molcajete (traditional mortar and pestle), start by grinding the chopped cilantro, onion, jalapeño, and salt and pepper into a smooth paste. Add the avocado flesh and lime juice, then mash with the pestle until you reach your preferred consistency—chunky is traditional. Stir in the chopped tomato using a spoon. Taste and season as desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a milder guacamole, remove all seeds and veins from the jalapeño or serrano pepper.
  • Use ripe avocados for the creamiest texture and best flavor.
  • Serve guacamole immediately to prevent browning, or cover tightly with plastic wrap pressed onto the surface and refrigerate for up to a few hours.
  • Adjust cilantro and lime juice based on personal taste preferences.
  • Molcajete method adds a traditional smoky flavor and texture to the guacamole.
