  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/3 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup water

Tacos:

  • 8 small corn tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • sour cream and lime wedges for serving
  • neutral oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ground Beef Filling: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion, cook until softened, then add garlic. Brown ground beef, season with spices, add tomato sauce and water, simmer until thickened.
  2. Fry Tortillas: Heat oil in a skillet. Fill each tortilla with beef mixture and cheese, fold in half. Fry until crispy, then drain on paper towels.
  3. Assemble Tacos: Fill crispy tortillas with lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro, and sour cream. Serve with lime wedges.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef.
  • To make these tacos spicier, add hot sauce or diced jalapeños to the filling.
  • For a shortcut, use pre-made taco seasoning instead of individual spices.
