Description

These Crispy Chicken Wonton Tacos with Teriyaki Glaze combine savory ground chicken cooked with aromatic garlic and ginger, tossed with fresh vegetables and a flavorful teriyaki glaze, all served inside deliciously crispy fried wonton shells. Garnished with lettuce and sesame seeds, this innovative taco recipe is perfect for a fun and tasty appetizer or light meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Filling

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely sliced
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

Wontons and Garnishes

  • 1 package wonton wrappers
  • Oil for frying (enough to deep fry)
  • Lettuce leaves, for serving
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil: In a large skillet, warm the vegetable oil over medium heat to prepare for sautéing the aromatics.
  2. Sauté aromatics: Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, releasing their flavors.
  3. Cook the chicken: Add the ground chicken to the skillet. Break it apart with a wooden spoon and cook until browned and fully cooked through, approximately 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add vegetables: Stir in the finely sliced green onions and shredded carrots. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the vegetables become slightly softened.
  5. Add sauces and finish filling: Mix in the soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, and sesame oil. Cook for another 2 minutes, stirring well to heat all components through. Remove from heat and set aside.
  6. Heat oil for frying wontons: In a separate deep pan or deep fryer, heat oil to 350°F (175°C) to fry the wonton wrappers.
  7. Fry wonton shells: Carefully place one wonton wrapper at a time into the hot oil and fry until golden and crispy, about 1-2 minutes.
  8. Drain excess oil: Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried wonton shells from the oil and transfer them to paper towels to drain excess oil. Repeat until all wrappers are fried.
  9. Assemble tacos: Place a few spoonfuls of the chicken mixture inside each crispy wonton shell.
  10. Garnish and serve: Top the tacos with fresh lettuce leaves and sprinkle sesame seeds on top before serving for extra crunch and flavor.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, fry wonton shells in small batches to avoid temperature drops in the oil.
  • Make sure to drain the fried wontons on paper towels to remove excess oil and keep them crispy.
  • You can substitute ground chicken with ground turkey or pork if preferred.
  • Adjust the amount of teriyaki sauce based on desired sweetness and saltiness.
  • Serve immediately after assembling to maintain the crisp texture of wonton shells.
