Description

Crispy and flavorful fried green beans coated in a spicy beer batter and served with a creamy sriracha dipping sauce. This appetizer offers a perfect balance of heat and crunch, making it a delicious snack or side dish for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Sriracha Dipping Sauce

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 Tablespoons Sriracha
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Fried Green Beans

  • 1 1/4 pound fresh green beans (washed and trimmed)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups beer
  • vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dipping sauce: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sriracha, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt until smooth. Cover and refrigerate the sauce to allow the flavors to meld while you prepare the green beans.
  2. Coat the green beans: Toss the trimmed green beans with 1/2 cup of the all-purpose flour until each bean is evenly coated. This initial coating helps the batter adhere better.
  3. Make the beer batter: In a separate bowl or pie plate, combine the remaining 2 cups of flour with cumin, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Gradually add the beer while stirring continuously until a thick, smooth batter forms, perfect for frying.
  4. Heat the oil: Pour 1-2 inches of vegetable oil into a large pot or Dutch oven and heat it to 375°F (190°C). Maintain this temperature for optimal frying results.
  5. Fry the green beans: Using heat-proof tongs, dip the flour-coated green beans into the beer batter, ensuring they are fully covered. Carefully place them in the hot oil in small batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Remove the fried beans with a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  6. Serve: Serve the fried green beans warm accompanied by the chilled sriracha dipping sauce for a spicy, creamy complement.

Notes

  • Ensure the oil temperature is maintained at 375°F for crispy results; too low will cause greasy beans, too high will burn the batter.
  • If you prefer less heat, adjust the cayenne pepper and sriracha amount to your taste.
  • Use fresh green beans that are firm and bright green for best texture.
  • Drain fried beans well on paper towels to reduce oiliness.
  • Serve immediately for best crunchiness; they may lose crispness if left to sit too long.
