Description

These Cream Cheese Cookies are rich, buttery, and tender treats that melt in your mouth. Perfectly balanced with cream cheese and butter, these cookies have a delicate crumb and subtle vanilla flavor, making them a delightful snack or dessert. Easy to prepare and bake, they can also be beautifully decorated with powdered sugar or sprinkles.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 6 oz (170 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups (250 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups (315 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Optional Decoration

  • Powdered sugar
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Cream Butter and Cream Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and cream cheese until the mixture becomes smooth and fluffy, which usually takes about 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Add Sugar, Egg Yolk, and Vanilla: Gradually beat in the granulated sugar until well combined. Then mix in the egg yolk followed by the vanilla extract, ensuring a smooth and uniform batter.
  4. Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt to the wet mixture. Mix gently just until a soft and workable dough forms. Avoid overmixing to keep the cookies tender.
  5. Form Cookies: Use a tablespoon or a cookie scoop to portion the dough. Place each scoop on the prepared baking sheets spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for slight spreading during baking.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are just barely golden. This ensures they stay soft inside.
  7. Cool and Decorate: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, decorate with powdered sugar or sprinkles if desired.

Notes

  • Make sure both butter and cream cheese are softened to room temperature for easy creaming and smooth dough.
  • Do not overmix after adding flour to prevent tough cookies.
  • Cookies can be decorated with powdered sugar for a classic look or colorful sprinkles for a festive touch.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days to maintain freshness.
  • For a firmer cookie, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
