Description

Delight in these festive Christmas Nutella Puff Pastries, featuring flaky puff pastry filled with rich, creamy Nutella and topped with a golden egg wash and a dusting of powdered sugar. Perfect for holiday gatherings or a cozy winter treat, these easy-to-make pastries bring a touch of sweetness and elegance to any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

Filling

  • ½ cup Nutella (or any chocolate-hazelnut spread)

Topping

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Optional: crushed hazelnuts, festive sprinkles, or cinnamon sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 12 rectangles or festive holiday shapes such as stars or trees according to your preference.
  3. Add Nutella Filling: Spoon 1–2 teaspoons of Nutella onto half of the pastry pieces, spreading it gently but keeping the edges clear to allow proper sealing.
  4. Seal Pastries: Place the remaining pastry pieces over the Nutella-topped pieces and press the edges together firmly using a fork to seal and prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
  5. Apply Egg Wash: Lightly beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the sealed pastries to give them a shiny, golden finish once baked.
  6. Bake Pastries: Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes or until the pastries are puffed up and golden brown.
  7. Finish and Serve: Allow the pastries to cool slightly on a wire rack, then dust with powdered sugar or decorate with optional crushed hazelnuts, festive sprinkles, or cinnamon sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the puff pastry is well thawed before rolling to prevent cracks.
  • Do not overfill with Nutella to avoid leakage during baking.
  • For a crunchier topping, sprinkle crushed hazelnuts before baking.
  • Make shapes festive by using cookie cutters such as stars, Christmas trees, or snowflakes.
  • Can be served warm or at room temperature.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container; best eaten within 2 days for optimal freshness.
