Description

This Chocolate Marble Asian Bread is a delightful homemade loaf that combines classic Asian bread’s soft texture with a rich chocolate swirl. The dough is flavored with cocoa powder and studded with chocolate chips, creating a visually striking marbled effect and a deliciously sweet taste. Perfect for breakfast or a comforting snack, this bread offers a satisfying balance of tender crumb and chocolatey goodness.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Chocolate Mix

  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt thoroughly to ensure even distribution.
  2. Activate Yeast: Dissolve the instant yeast in warm water and add it to the flour mixture, mixing until incorporated.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients and Knead: Pour in the warm milk and unsalted butter, then knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a mixer.
  4. Divide and Flavor Dough: Cut the kneaded dough into two equal parts. Mix cocoa powder into one half of the dough evenly to create the chocolate portion.
  5. Assemble Dough Layers: Roll out each dough portion into rectangular shapes. Place the chocolate dough over the plain dough and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly on top.
  6. Form the Loaf: Carefully roll the dough layers together into a log shape. Place the log into a greased loaf pan and cover it, letting it rise until doubled in size, about 45-60 minutes.
  7. Bake the Bread: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes until the crust is golden and a skewer inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

  • Ensure the water and milk are warm (around 110°F or 43°C) to activate the yeast properly without killing it.
  • For a richer flavor, you can substitute some of the milk with heavy cream.
  • To keep the bread soft, brush the top with melted butter immediately after baking.
  • Store the bread in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
  • Use good quality cocoa powder and chocolate chips for the best chocolate flavor.
