Description

A delicious and indulgent Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich featuring tender, pan-cooked chicken breasts layered with Swiss cheese and honey ham, toasted between buttery slices of white bread for a melty, savory treat perfect for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken & Seasonings

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (pounded thin)
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Sandwich & Cheese

  • 4 slices white sandwich bread
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter (room temperature, ¼ stick)
  • 8 slices baby Swiss cheese
  • 8 slices honey ham

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil and garlic: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, warm the olive oil and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Season the chicken: Season both sides of the pounded thin chicken breasts with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  3. Cook the chicken: Add the chicken breasts to the skillet and cook for 6 to 8 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked through and no longer pink inside. The cook time may vary depending on the thickness of the chicken.
  4. Remove chicken from skillet: Once cooked, transfer the chicken breasts to a plate and set aside.
  5. Butter the bread slices: Spread about ½ tablespoon of room temperature salted butter on one side of each slice of white sandwich bread.
  6. Assemble the sandwiches: Place two slices of the buttered bread into the skillet, butter side down. On each slice, layer one slice of Swiss cheese, two slices of honey ham, and another slice of Swiss cheese. Then place one cooked chicken breast on top of each, followed by another slice of Swiss cheese, two more slices of honey ham, and a final slice of Swiss cheese. Complete the sandwich by adding the remaining bread slices on top, butter side up.
  7. Melt the cheese: Cover the skillet and cook for about 2 minutes to allow the cheese to melt thoroughly.
  8. Toast the other side: Carefully flip each sandwich once the bottom side is toasted to your preference. Toast the other side until golden brown and crispy. Serve the sandwiches hot for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For more flavor, add a thin spread of Dijon mustard or mayonnaise inside the sandwich before assembling.
  • If chicken breasts are thick, pound them evenly to ensure they cook at the same rate.
  • Use a lid when melting cheese to trap heat and achieve perfect melt.
  • Serve with a side of pickles or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
