Description

This Cherry Blueberry Galette features a flaky pie crust filled with a luscious mix of sweet cherries and blueberries, enhanced with lemon juice and zest for a bright, fresh flavor. Easy to prepare and baked until golden brown, it’s a rustic and delightful dessert perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1 pie crust

Filling

  • 2 cups dark sweet cherries, frozen or fresh
  • 1 cup blueberries, frozen or fresh
  • 1/3 cup cane sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Zest of one lemon

Finishing

  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 C) to prepare for baking the galette.
  2. Prepare Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cherries, blueberries, cane sugar, flour, fresh lemon juice, and lemon zest. Stir gently to mix all the ingredients evenly.
  3. Roll Out Crust: Roll out the pie crust dough into a 12-inch round shape. Place the dough on a piece of parchment paper laid on a baking sheet.
  4. Assemble Galette: Spoon the cherry and blueberry filling into the center of the dough round, leaving about a 2-inch border around the edges.
  5. Fold Edges: Fold the edges of the crust up over the fruit, slightly overlapping the dough to create a rustic crust border that encloses some of the filling.
  6. Brush Egg Wash: Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the dough edges to help achieve a golden brown finish during baking.
  7. Bake: Place the galette in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  8. Cool and Serve: Remove the galette from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving to allow the filling to set.

Notes

  • You can use either fresh or frozen cherries and blueberries depending on availability.
  • If you prefer a sweeter galette, adjust the sugar quantity to taste.
  • Letting the galette cool helps prevent the filling from spilling out when cut.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
