Deliciously sweet and salty caramel pretzels coated in buttery toffee and optional melted chocolate, perfect for gifting or snacking. This easy-to-make treat combines mini pretzels with a rich caramel glaze, baked to perfection and sprinkled with flaky sea salt for added flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
Pretzels
- 4 cups mini pretzel twists
Caramel Toffee
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup light brown sugar (packed)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
Chocolate & Garnish (Optional)
- 1½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Flaky sea salt for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and evenly spread the mini pretzels over it.
- Make Toffee Sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter and light brown sugar together, stirring constantly until fully melted.
- Boil Mixture: Bring the butter and sugar mixture to a boil and let it boil for 3 minutes without stirring to develop a rich toffee flavor.
- Add Vanilla and Baking Soda: Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in vanilla extract and baking soda; the mixture will bubble and foam, which helps create a light, crunchy texture.
- Coat Pretzels: Immediately pour the toffee mixture evenly over the pretzels on the baking sheet. Use a spatula to gently toss and coat all pretzels thoroughly.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 8 minutes to set the caramel coating.
- Add Chocolate: Remove the pretzels from the oven and let cool for 2 minutes. Sprinkle semi-sweet chocolate chips over the hot toffee-coated pretzels if using.
- Melt Chocolate: Allow the chocolate chips to sit for a few minutes to melt, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the pretzels using a spatula.
- Garnish: Sprinkle flaky sea salt over the chocolate for a finishing touch.
- Cool and Serve: Let the pretzels cool completely at room temperature or place them in the refrigerator to speed up setting. Once the chocolate and caramel are set, break the pretzels into pieces and serve.
Notes
- These caramel pretzels make a delightful edible gift or party snack.
- You can use white or milk chocolate in place of semi-sweet chocolate for a different flavor variation.
- Store the pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week to maintain freshness.
