Ingredients
Scale
Butter Mixture
- 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), melted
Biscuit Dough
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking the biscuits.
- Prepare Baking Dish: Pour the melted butter into the bottom of an 8×8-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly to form the buttery base on which the biscuits will bake.
- Mix Dough: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the buttermilk and stir until a sticky dough forms.
- Shape and Cut Biscuits: Scoop the sticky dough onto the melted butter in the baking dish and spread evenly. Using a knife dipped in melted butter, cut the dough into 9 equal squares. The butter prevents sticking and helps create clean cuts.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake the biscuits for 20-25 minutes until they turn golden brown on top and are cooked through.
- Cool and Serve: Let the biscuits cool slightly before serving to allow the butter to settle and flavors to meld perfectly.
Notes
- Using melted butter in the baking dish helps achieve a crispy, buttery crust on the bottom and sides of the biscuits.
- Cutting the dough before baking simplifies serving and maintains the buttery layers between biscuits.
- For a richer flavor, use high-quality buttermilk and fresh baking powder for optimal rise.
- These biscuits are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven but can be reheated gently to maintain texture.
