Description

A refreshing and creamy Brazilian Limeade made with fresh limes, sweetened condensed milk, and ice water. This frothy, tangy, and sweet drink is perfect for serving immediately on a hot day, capturing the vibrant flavors of Brazil in every sip.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 5 limes (with thin, smooth rinds)
  • 2 cups ice water
  • scant 2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk (about 10 tablespoons)
  • extra sliced limes (to garnish)
  • more ice (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Choose Limes: Select limes with thin, smooth skins that are easier to squeeze. These will give a better flavor without too much bitterness.
  2. Chop Limes: Cut all 5 limes into small 1-inch chunks to prepare for blending.
  3. Add Ice Water to Blender: Pour 2 cups of ice water into a blender, optionally adding 5-8 ice cubes to keep the drink chilled without diluting it too much.
  4. Add Limes and Blend: Add the chopped limes to the blender and pulse blend for no more than 15 seconds to avoid extracting bitterness from the lime pith.
  5. Strain Lime Mixture: Pour the blended mixture through a fine strainer or sieve set over a large glass measuring cup or bowl. Press the pulp with a rubber spatula or your hands to extract as much juice as possible.
  6. Add Sweetened Condensed Milk: Return the strained liquid to the blender and add scant 2/3 cup (around 10 tablespoons) sweetened condensed milk.
  7. Blend Again: Blend until the mixture is smooth and frothy, creating a creamy texture.
  8. Serve Immediately: Pour the Brazilian limeade over a glass filled completely with ice. For best taste, serve cold and right after blending.
  9. Important Serving Note: Do not wait to serve; the lime pith causes bitterness if the drink sits for 20-30 minutes. Enjoy it fresh and vibrant.
  10. Yield: This recipe makes about 3 cups. Avoid saving or freezing leftovers; best enjoyed immediately.

Notes

  • Use limes with thin skin for less bitterness and easier squeezing.
  • Do not over-blend to prevent the drink from becoming bitter due to lime pith.
  • Serve the limeade immediately for the best flavor and to avoid bitterness developing.
  • Do not save or freeze leftovers as bitterness will increase and texture will degrade.
  • For garnish, use extra sliced limes to enhance presentation.
