Description

Celebrate the 4th of July with these festive and delicious Crinkle Cookies featuring classic red, white, and blue colors. Soft, chewy, and topped with a powdered sugar coating, these cookies are perfect for holiday gatherings or any patriotic occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Red food coloring (10 drops)
  • Blue food coloring (10 drops)

For Coating

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth and fluffy. Then add the eggs and mix thoroughly to ensure everything is well combined.
  2. Add Dry Ingredients: Sift in the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt into the wet mixture. Stir gently but thoroughly until the dough becomes thick and sticky. Once combined, wrap or cover the dough and chill it in the refrigerator for at least one hour to firm up.
  3. Preheat Oven and Prepare Sheets: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and promote even baking.
  4. Divide and Color Dough: Remove the chilled dough and divide it into three equal portions. Leave one portion plain (white), add 10 drops of red food coloring to one portion, and 10 drops of blue food coloring to the other portion. Knead each portion until the color is evenly distributed.
  5. Shape and Coat Cookies: Roll small balls from each colored dough portion. Then roll each ball in powdered sugar twice to create the signature crinkly top texture.
  6. Bake Cookies: Place the dough balls spaced well apart on the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until the cookies are crackled on top but still soft in the center. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure butter is properly softened for easier creaming with sugar.
  • Chilling the dough is important for easier handling and better texture.
  • Rolling the dough balls twice in powdered sugar enhances the crinkled appearance.
  • You can adjust the amount of food coloring based on desired color intensity.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container to keep them soft and fresh.
